So, Last Splash XX... what a beautiful re-issue. I'm so in love with it. Here's a pack shot;
There's a sturdy, 4-panel wallet, one for each CD and the 4th holds the thick, 48-page booklet, which is packed with unseen photos, a history of the band/album, tour diary extracts and additional artwork by Vaughan Oliver. The remastering is not "LOUD", it sounds quite modest and if anything, only a little richer. And what a joy to have the entire Head To Toe 10" EP digitally for the first time ever! I had to buy a random 90s USA various artists promo CD from Discogs to get Head To Toe, the song, on CD format, but the other tracks were never released digitally. The main album is still superb, and in recent years, I've decided it outshines Belly's Star (co-incidental pun!), also from 1993. At the time, I was more impressed with Star and much more "into" Belly, but Last Splash wins out 20 years later. I am left puzzled as to why 4AD haven't given Throwing Muses or Belly a similar re-issue treatment, though? Also, Tanya Donelly re-joined The Breeders live on stage last week to perform some of the tracks... what a treat that must've been for US audiences! Jealous.
