I'm glad I didn't get the Hit Factory CD. I might swoop if it ever drops to less than a fiver.

I'm sure I can hear faint vinyl crackle on the 12" mix but it's fine.............. the album itself does sound better than my old cd.

I just had to have a CD with Neneh Cherry's PWL production on, though. If there had been a promo CD from 1986 with it on, I'd have paid £20 for it. This was £13 and has plenty more on it, it's just the overall product could have been vastly superior by including genuine rarities in the same vein as Morgan McVey.

    New Sparks compilations anyone?

    Singles 2CD; http://www.repertoirerecords.com/?p=5713

    12" Remixes 2CD; http://www.repertoirerecords.com/?p=5711

    They only cover 1979-84 however.

    Seeing as the bonus disc with the new Hit Factory compilation was quite underwhelming, I challenged my friend to making our own sepcial bonus disc. These are my selections, which fit perfectly on one CD. I went for rarer or lesser known tracks (but if I had access to the vaults, it would be quite a different story, obviously...);

01 Dead Or Alive - Hooked On Love [The Big Revolver Mix]
02 Mandy - Don't You Want Me Baby?
03 Lana Pellay - Pistol In My Pocket [Original Version]
04 Samantha Fox - That Sensation
05 Dollar - It's Nature's Way (No Problem) [Mixmaster Phil Harding 12'' Mix]
06 Scarlet Fantastic - No Memory
    07 Sigue Sigue Sputnik - Success [7"]
08 O'Chi Brown - Whenever You Need Somebody
    09 Bananarama - A Trick Of The Night #2
10 Yell! - Instant Replay [The Rebound Club Mix]
    11 Fantasia - Tonight's The Night
12 Kelly Marie - Feels Like I'm In Love [90's PWL Remix]
13 Debbie Harry - In Love With Love [Extended Version]
14 Hazell Dean - Who's Leaving Who [Boys Are Back In Town Mix]
15 Desireless - Voyage Voyage [Britmix]

I really wanted to include the Voice Of The Beehive PWL remix of I Think I Love You, but it's vinyl-only to date and I didn't want to spoil things with a shoddy vinyl rip.

    Interesting pair of 2CD releases;

Electrospective: Electronic Music Since 1958 http://shop.electrospective.com/*/*/...G0000000?back=

    Electrospective: The Remix Album http://shop.electrospective.com/*/*/...C0000000?back=

I got the first one from HMV for £5 (out this week). 2nd one should be the same, just isn;t up for pre-order yet (out August). Loving the inclusion of some rare Malcolm McLaren, Grace Jones and Neneh Cherry.

i'm not sure [and not bothered enough to check] if all are strictly PWL, but the new 3CD set is a let down, and if CD3 is rarities/for the fans, i'd include:

Dead Or Alive - Brand New Lover [Up Ducky Mix]
Paul King - I Know [Instant Magic Mix]
Alison Moyet - Ordinary Girl [PWL 7'' Remix]
Debbie Harry - In Love With Love [Extended PWL Mix]
Carol Hitchcock - Get Ready [The Extraterrestrial Bass Mix]
Princess - In The Heat Of A Passionate Moment [The Final Frontier Mix]
    Desireless - Voyage Voyage [Britmix]
Dee Lewis - The Best Of My Love [Full Length Dance Mix]
Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind [Harding Mix]
Amazulu - Mony Mony [Extended Mix]
Diana Ross - Mr Lee [Rare Groove Version]
Jigsaw - Sky High '89 [Extended]
Bananarama - Mr Sleaze [US 7'' Mix]
Jermaine Stewart - Get Lucky [Extended]
Boney M - The Summer Megamix [Extended]
Londonboys - London Nights [PWL Mix]
Samantha Fox - Nothings Gonna Stop Me Now [Extended]
Donna Summer - I Don't Wanna Get Hurt [Unreleased 12'' Version]
Dead Or Alive - My Heart Goes Bang [Get Me To The Doctor] [Extended]

am sure some kind soul will tell me if there's any 'mistakes' in there, but perhaps also gives some small hint at how far of the mark the released 'rarities' cd is (for me at least).

I can't remember if Anfunny reviewed the Bronski/Communards reissues yet, but on amazon there are some worrying comments about dreaded vinyl rips?!

Just as well I didn't get them in HMV today. Now I'm wondering if I should just get the original Hundreds & Thousands CD.

Seemingly there is no 12" of Smalltown Boy or Why on the reissue......whatta dis!

  14. #1514
I know. *sigh*. I'm seriously tempted to just keep my (ugly) 1996 reissue of AoC, and get the original Hundreds & Thousands. But then I'll still need the 7" edit of Smalltown Boy. Maybe that'll be available digitally?
    Eric's Generic World: http://ericsgenericworld.blogspot.com/

  15. #1515
Never knew there was a 7" edit, thank God my anorak tendencies don't go that far, I'd be in a permanent state of anxiety - I've got over the 'I must get the remaster or reissue' phase too unless the original CD is really really bad like Sinead O'Connor's IDNWWIHG and The Blue Nile first two albums could do with a bit of volume but I'm generally finding the original CD is fine, just turn up the treble and the volume, after 30 odd years of listening to music I must be half deaf anyway!

  16. #1516
I never knew about it either, but now I need it haha. Same with the 1987 mix of You Are My World.

Most of these have already been released on CD over the years. I didn't know about the US 7" Mix of Mr Sleaze... might this be the the standard UK 7" and not the more common Rare Groove Remix? What is the difference if not? The Debbie Harry track is just known as Extended Version, not Extended PWL Mix. It's on a compilation with the wrong credits, suggesting the remix wasn't by PWL, but it's their mix.

I know about the review, I think he says "sounds like.... to me" or something, but I didn't have any issues playing back (still got Red to play though). I have the originals anyway...

Is the So Cold The Night 12' on there, I love that original 12" mix.

Just thought I'd add this Never Can Say Goodbye video, never saw it before, love Jimmy's moves at 2:38, looks like they really had fun making it!

I don't think it is. If I remember rightly the original extended mix is just over 9 minutes long. It's far superior to the extended remix. Is the club remix the same as just the extended remix?

'So Cold The Night' extended mix is probably my favorite Communard's track.....full of eastern promise!

  21. #1521
I have the vinyl but want the cd single now if it's not on the reissue but it's not cheap. These reissues didn't do either Bronski Beat or The Communards justice at all, you would expect the 12' mixes as a given.

  22. #1522
Yeah I have both the UK 12" vinyls the one with the gatefold sleeve has the original extend mix and the other 12" has the remix and a multimix. ......what I really wanted was just the extended mix of 'So Cold The Night' on Cd! Not sure if i will get the reissue now. Oh well I will be getting 'Red' just for the fabulously epic extended version of 'Tomorrow'.

  23. #1523
Argh, I still can't make up my bloody mind about the Age Of Consent reissue.

Meanwhile, there's a new 5CD "original album claasics" for the Thompson Twins, courtesy of Sony/Legacy. Didn't see this one coming. All the albums are in their basic, bonus-free versions.

The CD text on the Hit Factory CD is for CD 2. Things like that really annoy me. Perhaps I should get out more. Or upgrade my stereo to one that doesn't scroll CD text (although that would mean losing my minidisc player, and I can't do that yet)

Seems like all the stuff not on the previous deluxe versions of Pleasuredome and LIverpool has been held back for this.
This has dropped to £7 on Amazon and HMV now, so I've pre-ordered it. I doubt it will get that much lower after release (in fact it'll probably go up, as HMV tend to do now).
