Anybody know if there are any Berlin reissues planned? "Pleasure Victim" in particular is in desperate need of cleanup.
They have tons of rarities too. I never even heard this one before today:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOc0mjlY9-k (Tell Me Why, original b-side version)
Good question! I'd have expected some kind of reissues by now, even of the Wounded Bird variety. But they (the record label, one assumes) seem more intent on putting out compilations and live albums for the moment.
On a similar note, does anyone know if Kirsty MacColl's first album (Desperate Character) will *ever* see the light of day on CD??!! I'm having a real Kirsty binge at present - making a complete set of her singles and B-sides, digging out the Croydon To Cuba DVD, etc - and I cannot believe how that album is still not available on CD. So strange.

Desperate Character really ought to be reissued, complete with the Real album tracks. Essentially, there is a 2nd Kirsty album which is unreleased. She said herself it was much more techno-based... 7 tracks from Real were officially released across the two formats of the Kirsty MacColl LP (ie. the cheap re-issue of Desperate Character) and the 3CD box set a few years back, but the full album still sits somewhere unheard and unloved in full. I'm sure it's not her estate holding anything back but there's a rumour it's been remastered by Steve Lilywhite and is just sat waitng for a reissue, but... who knows?
Real tracks:
From 'Kirsty MacColl' LP:
Roman Gardens
Berlin
Annie
From limited edition 'Kirsty MacColl' LP:
Man With No Name
Sleepless Nights
From 'From Croydon to Cuba' box set:
Camel Crossing
Sticked And Stones
"You are a horrible person"
I'm sure there was a rumour that Desperate Character was getting a re-issue but I can't remember when or where I read that. It was a while ago.
Yeah, there was some talk a while back on the Kirsty mailing list, but that doesn't seem to have come to anything...yet. So frustrating, and as anfunny says you wouldn't have thought it was her estate making it difficult or anything. Judging from the Boxset in 2005, they seem more than happy to get the unreleased material out there, with some care taken over the presentation.
I wasn't sure if The Real MacColl ever got completed (various sleevenotes refer to it as "abandoned", which could mean it was finished but never intended for release, or they packed it in before they got to finish it). There's also the B-side to Berlin - Rhythm Of The Real Thing - on the Croydon to Cuba set, which comes from the same era/sessions, if not ever meant for the album proper.
It's been quite a challenge to piece together the exact chronology of the available material, and make an even bigger set than Croydon to Cuba from what's out there. Although I appreciate that set was sequenced and selected quite deliberately the way it was.
God, I adore her videos....I just did not pay her quite enough attention at the time. I always had a soft spot for her, to say the least, but not as much as I did in later years. You look at those clips now and it's so bittersweet. Actually, I couldn't face even watching the thing for 7 years, it had been sat on my shelf since the day it was released.

Well, just been browsing around on amazon and I can get ready to cross another much-longed-for 80s CD off my list very soon! The first solo David Grant album is coming out on BBR with lots of extra tracks, on July 30th. The first Lisa Lisa album is also on the way, although that has at least existed on compact disc before. Add in all the Bronski/Communards/Somerville reissues, and the Vicious Pink set....this is quite a summer of 80s retro bliss.

I know some people at Salvo, and I think I'm right in saying that there is a Kirsty McColl best-of due later this year. This may prompt some back catalogue activity to follow if it works.
Sounds like it could be similar to that Tracey Ullman set on Salvo, which had her complete Stiff recordings.
Eric's Generic World: http://ericsgenericworld.blogspot.com/
Hmmm, another Kirsty Best Of? Previous Stiff-era ones have failed to hit the spot and I suspect this one will be no different... but hope to be proved wrong. This one from the 90s is probably a good starting point, fleshed out with the rest of Desperate Character, Real and the b-sides?;

But we may get a surprise because Salvo manage both ZTT and Stiff, and she recorded for both, so it has potential to be either very comprehensive or very messy indeed. A Stiff/Polydor era only one would suit best because there's quite the gap between those label stints (on Virgin of course).
"You are a horrible person"
OK, this is great Kirsty MacColl news... forthcoming on Slavo this September!;
Desperate Character 2CD [to include Real, hopefully, but the owners of the material are unknown in some cases]
Kite 2CD
Electric Landlady 2CD
Titanic Days 2CD
The Best Of 2CD [Career-spanning]
This will be the most comprehensive overview of Kirsty's career ever. There has been a plea for rare memoribilia, records and photos on-going for use in the accompanying booklets, etc. via the Freeworld forum. There's some discussion there too;

"You are a horrible person"
Woo Hoo!
Although I don't know if I'll get the expanded Kite, Electric Landlady and Titanic Days, as I have the last batch of issues with bonus tracks. It depends what's on the extra disc, I guess. There are a handful of B-sides that I'm missing, mainly from the Tropical Brainstorm era actually, so that situation might still be the same for me!
My 4CD set has turned out quite well, more work than usual but also more satisfying in a way. I called it "Queen Of The High Teas: A Very Singular Collection".
Eric's Generic World: http://ericsgenericworld.blogspot.com/
My Kirsty compilation is called 'Philosophising Some', which is a lyric from... ? All my artists specific sets are titled after a lyric, but never a song title. It keeps my brain active, I suppose.
Re: content, looks like they're gonna break up the radio sessions CD...
http://www.discogs.com/Kirsty-MacCol...release/587049
...across the relevant albums and include enhanced videos possibly? As well as the b-sides and mixes missing from the Virgin reissues.
"You are a horrible person"
Oh, "What Do Pretty Girls Do" is the one album/compilation I still don't have. I was tempted to get it this week, especially as the sleeve is quite nice too.
That lyric's from Walking Down Madison, isn't it.....just before "checking out the bums" (or "nuns", depending on the verse).

Propaganda's Wishful Thinking reissue sounding very good! Playing it at full blast.
Oh good, I was hoping someone would report back on that one.

I am loving the new HMV deliveries... no longer in Guernsey, now based in Birmingham, they arrive sooner! Next week's dispatched yesterday and arrived today. Anyway, the reason I'm posting is to report that the Vicious Pink CD on Cherry Pop is very good. Sounds pristine, decent liner notes with pictures and discography. It's not quite the utter perfection of the Apple-like, spick n span PWL reissues, but it's at the better end of their other output. It's frustrating it talks about the earlier releases and b-sides but doesn't explain why they are absent. I wonder if the two of them fell out, because he never mentions Josie in the present tense, either? Ah well, so nice to finally own an album by them on CD!
Next week is all about Samantha Fox... signed copies available from Cherry Pop direct but I'm sticking with HMV. I didn't really like the Hazell Dean ballpoint pen scrawl on the Always reissue, and it was more expensive, so no thanks. I'm hoping that Touch Me has a reversable sleeve, with the Touch Me - Special Edition art, and I can finally have the album in full as if it had been reissued in it's own right. It's fair to say that in the last 6-10 years, I've had so many of my dream reissues actually happen, it's been amazing. A few left on my list (hello, Amazulu?!) but all good things, etc. etc.

Glad the move to Brum hasn't put an end to early HMV deliveries! They must be doing it in stages - I had a Blu-ray delivered today, sent from Guernsey.
The Jimmy Somerville reissue tracklists - Out July 30th, 2CDs, slipcases.

Funny, I just don't associate To Love Somebody with the Read My Lips era at all (let alone three times). Some good stuff there though, especially the Kevin Saunderson mixes. Slightly strange notion of completeness to include two Bronski Beat tracks but leave off the William Orbit mix of Mighty Real, in fact both the remixes of that single. Why do that? The release is aimed at fans, so stuffing songs "people have heard of" on there to get casual buyers seems a bit stupid.

Replying with GIFs is like arguing with a tree - really boring.
I'm guessing that the guy behind the selections (he does the Jimmy website) has gone for vinyl-only stuff first. The Mighty Real remixes have at least been on CD (the William Orbit one many times). This release addressed some of the Jimmy/Bronski/Communards mixes already;
http://www.discogs.com/Jimmy-Somervi...release/752394
Then, I guess the remixes of Bronski Beat do come from 1990, when they were re-released from The Singles Collection, so within months of Read My Lips. Same as To Love Somebody. I do however agree that at least one of those Mighty Real mixes should be present, preferably the Gary Langan one, but it is 9:32!

"You are a horrible person"
But it's a Jimmy Somerville album reissue, not a "Best of Jimmy Somerville & Bronski Beat" compilation. It's tracks from a group he was no longer a part of. To Love Somebody was from the Singles Collection as was the Smalltown Boy remix, and both are readily available on CD.
The more I look at it, the more I think it's a bit of a mess overall. I'll be waiting for it to get cheap before I buy it!

There's more than enough Amazulu material to fill a 2CD set. All the 12" mixes, the B-sides, the megamix, the two London Records singles and their mixes... Cherry Pop/Red have tried to get the licenese and failed though, so it's unlikely. Why did you sell your CD? I've had mine for years and I think I got it for a fiver.
"You are a horrible person"
Bad news - just got this email from Cherry Red Records:
It is with much regret we must announce that the release of the four Samantha Fox albums have been delayed by approximately 2 to 3 weeks. This is due to an unexpected delay with the manufacturing process of the CD’s.
I'm just going to have to be patient!
