It's their Parlophone material. I guess they couldn't license the other stuff (yet).

Sorry, I didn't realize Nnnumb had already mentioned the release. That will teach me not to check first!

Yep, fingers crossed that their earlier singles, B-sides and demos get a release on Cd at some point.

I got the first batch of Everything But The Girl reissues today from HMV via pre-order. Jaw-droppingly exquisit. A lot of care and attention to detail has gone into these... very impressed. Gonna settle down, read and play this afternoon...

If I wasn't going to get those, I probably am now!

The booklets are on nice thick glossy stock, the font is clean and the images are crisp and well layed out. Nice design throughout, I like the colour striped down the spines (each a different colour), everything annotated, quite a quality product. Still to play them, mind. One today, one tomorrow.

So getting those now! So it's a day of St Etienne and EBTG at yours?

They've been overseen by Ben and Tracey themselves, haven't they? Also looking at those coloured bars on the stickers, I'd guess that each one of the 4 in the series will be one of those colours...which means the rest of their catalogue won't (as yet) be part of this series.

Yes, pretty much! But I did squeeze in a Donna Summer CD inbetween. Just finished Eden, and the main album I confess to not enjoying a great deal... it's certianly not their best. However, the second disc is wonderful. The b-sides and orphaned a-sides pack a bit more punch and after reading the notes I know why. They were recorded with a live band, so they're much tighter and stronger. I love the BBC session of Another Bridge, very good. I'll do Love Not Money tomorrow.

    I actually came to say that I found Teena Marie remastered reissues in my local indie store today. British! Done by Soul Music Records, which is a(nother) spin-off from Cherry Red. There's Robbery (83) and Starchild (84) which are the two I've always wanted, so I nabbed them. Looks like the next two are out at the end of June (these were released Apil 23rd), and after only having a greatest hits (which doesn't feature anything from 83 onwards), I'm looking forward to playing these... at some point! Ha. Here's a few links though;

Yes. Ben's note is pretty glib and uneventful, mind. They didn't like doing the BBC sessions, apparently... and yes, the coloured sticker shows each of the 4 colours. That's not to say they wont do the next three further down the line, with three more colours. I imagine these will sell strongly and if they can license the tracks, they will. I certainly hope they do, because these might be the best reissues I've seen in a while. I haven't checked their completeness, however. There may be tracks missing but I'm going to leave that to someone else to announce! They seem very thorough.

I'm listening to My Bloody Valentine all week. I'm not sure about the actual remastering though. My hearing is so crap when it comes to that sort of thing.
Annie, if you're reading this...please know that I want your EP right now!

Is there a chance ZTT will re-release Slave To The Rhythm and make it sound loud enough for iTunes. The album sounds terrible because of the sound quality. I think Lady Gaga fans would really appreciate this album.

    ZTT never released that. It was just produced by Trevor Horn. Island own it, and they had scheduled a deluxe remaster of Nightclubbing for their anniversairy, along with The B-52's debut album, but they were both cancelled for reasons unknown. So I've always expected Island to do Slave To The Rhythm, but Salvo would be fine too, I just doubt Island would let that one go off elsewhere, but stranger things have happened. It's worth noting what is on iTunes, and the CD still in print, is not the full Slave To The Rhythm album. It's missing all the interview sections inbetween and the tracks are edited. The USA CD has the full original UK LP/cassette in tact. See here;

Oh, have a word, someone... this Paula Abdul 2CD misses out Rock House, U and the single mix of Cold Hearted. Boooooo!

Also, crap sleeve. But wait... they redeem themselves with some AMAZING reissues. I'm GIDDY about these...

Communards and Bronski Beat 2CD remasters! 12" mixes! B-sides! A Megamix! They're in jewel cases with card slipcases, out July 2nd. Woop!

£9 a pop on HMV, while Amazon has them down for June 25th but no price.

Sorry to spam the thread, but I've now finished Love Not Money. Such a step up from Eden, a strong album. Possibly the best of the pre-dance albums? The bonus disc is excellent, albeit a tad short at just 35 minutes, but it's all the relevant material from the era. I did discover a tiny error in the booklet. Each album track which was released as a single has, "Released as A-side..." details with the lyrics, but Angel doesn't have that, and it was a single. Minor, but I spotted it!

Those EBTG reissues do look brilliant, but i'll hold off and see if 'Walking Wounded' gets the same treatment (which will convince me to get the back catalogue). I'm hoping there exists somewhere an EBTG 'dancey' version of 'Looking For Love' a la Karen Ramirez.

The Communcards ones look ace too - may add them to my couple of Sam Fox CD's on the shopping list.

and taking opportunity (again) to state the obvious shocking state of affairs that is all of these albums getting the love, attention and fresh air they deserve, and STILL no sign of:

Dead Or Alive - Youthquake; Mad, Bad & Dangerous To Know; Nude.
Alison Moyet - Alf; Raindancing; Hoodoo
Kim Wilde - Close; Love Moves; Love Is

such a thoroughly unacceptable state of affairs. someone please rectify so i can at least sleep at night! thanks.

Walking Wounded is a Virgin Records release. They wont license that to Edsel. The need for that to be reissued is minimal anyway, considering all the b-sides/mixes were released on CD already, so not many would really buy that? The pull with the earlier albums is of course remastering, vinyl-only tracks appearing on CD for the first time, and demos/radio sessions. I guess Walking Wounded would have some demos, but no sessions that I recall. Anyway, it's unlikely.

Kim Wilde's next three albums were requested and rejected. MCA/Universal may have plans for them (probably not) but Cherry Pop have been given the thumbs down with the licenses.

Alison Moyet has had a bit of a run in with Sony over her reissues. She wanted to re-record stuff for them but they didn't want that (I don't either). I think they weren't prepared to pay for it, so it's stale mate if you like.

Dead Or Alive themselves have objected to expanded reissues. Not sure why or how that works, but again, full 2CD reissues were proposed, put forward and rejected by Sony.

As always with reissues, it's just about being patient. Everything comes out eventually... one way or another!

I heard that a friend of a friend was working on a Kim Wilde "Closer" reissue at Universal, but that was at least 6 months ago, so I don't know what's happening with it now.
Replying with GIFs is like arguing with a tree - really boring.

All the work was done, by the guy from her website who did the last lot, but it was all nipped in the bud. Would they not use that guys work? Are they going to make a mess of it as a result if they don't? Super-fans really are the best people to get involved with these...

I think I read that there was a fan suggested Nick Kershaw re-issue by Cherry Pop (or someone) that got refused and the the record company did their own reissue with the same track listing that Cherry Pop had suggested. I may have imagined this or garbled the details but it might give hope that a Universal or MCA "Close" might not be too bad.

Ha! I was having a bit of a Paula Abdul revival last week, and was thinking of finally getting Shut Up & Dance to complement the Greatest Hits from a few years back but saw this on the schedules. Now I know what's (not) on it, I'm going to stick with my original plan.

Possibly, yes. It's still kind of "indie", playing on the student-y vibe of the early years, while keeping the quality control very high. I have a soft spot for Worldwide, and Idlewild is also rather lovely. I hardly ever play Baby The Stars Shine Bright.

Oh and great news about the Somerville reissues...finally, I can get rid of that horrible 90s "Age On Consent" CD with the coloured edging and incomplete bonus track selection...and finally, I can get the 1987 single mix of You Are My World on CD!

thanks for the reply... I know Moyet doesn't care too much for 'Alf' & 'Raindancing', but i love them, and no way would want re-recordings!

the issue with Dead Or Alive as i understand is that permission of the band is needed if the albums are released with any bonus content, hence the 3 albums being released as a budget box set last year in their original forms. a shame as remastered, deluxe DOA albums would do well i think.

    one day...
