    Well, after the craziness of record Store Day 2012, I got home to a load of nice CDs in the post;

Limhal - Don't Suppose (finally!): Sounds amazing, but the packaing is very average. No additional photos, just 12 pages of liner notes.

Five Star - Between The Lines/Rock The World: Definite improvement on the first two Cherry Pop titles. I went straight for the 12 minute Hit Mix, being a Megamix fan, and it's pretty good. Will check out the full content later...

Hazell Dean- Always : Got a signed one, so that's nice, even if it's in biro (for some reason I hate that). It's as good as previous Cherry Pop/PWL releases, but a slight note that the saturation on the booklet is a tad dark, which we know seems to happen a lot but the PWL titles have always managed to avoid this until now. It's just things like the blue graphics are now very, very dark blue, almost purple. Otherwise, sound is fantastic and all the usual trimmings are there (illustrated discography, artist comments, era photos). A jolly good release!

Got my Always yesterday and it's a signed copy too which is cool. Just listening to it now and it sounds great. It's so good to finally hear the 7" versions of They Say It's Gonna Rain and Always Doesn't Mean Forever and again I can't believe they flopped - they are two of my favourite PWL songs.

It's really got me in the mood for the Hit Factory Live show!

These look incredible! So comprehensive and a wealth of unreleased songs and mixes. Most exciting for me is the inclusion of three "new" PWL songs; Forever True, A Second Chance and Sam's version of Boy Krazy's That's What Love Can Do which has been completed from the demo by Matt Pop using Sam's original vocals. Roll on June!

Just got my 'Always' deluxe. I really like the liner notes to each song by Hazell - particularly for the album tracks. The bonus tracks are fantastic too; I just can't work out why the original extended version of Turn it into love is missing - as far as I can tell it's only available on CD on the original CD single. But that's a small point when the rest of the package is so good. Definitely one of my favourite reissues so far!

Yes, that extended version and You're Too Good To Be True (Turn It Into Love's B-side, which was a re-recorded and updated song from her debut) have both not made the tracklist. The latter is on that Music Club budget best of, mind.

Yep - I've got both the CD single and the EMI 'Gold' effort, I was quite hoping that the Turn It Into Love mix would get a remaster. Hilariously I always thought the spoken part in 'You're Too Good To Be True' ends with 'I must have looked like a chicken tart'. Even the remaster didn't dissuade me of this - and I refuse to believe that I'm wrong!

  7. #1382
The Sam Fox re-issues look good. Suprised they are doing all four at once. I may get the first 2 as they are the best and contain most of the big hits. I am glad I never invested in buying those American remasters now.

I am loving the 'Always' re-issue, considering she has been around since the 1970s it is shocking that Hazell only really had two proper albums (I cannot include her album of Abba covers as not original material).

Is it worth buying the Five Star remasters? Are any of the tracks sourced from vinyl?

  8. #1383
I'd say buy the Five Star reissues, but I am biased as I worked on them. Can absolutely guarantee that no tracks are from vinyl; all from original Sony masters.

  9. #1384
Not sure many will care, but the My Bloody Valentine reissues are out today. I got mine instore at HMV for £10 each (versus £9 each online - but my pre-orders hadn't even dispatched as of this morning so I cancelled and bought in the real world). Nice hardbacked, fold-out card packages... taller than the average CD case, which will annoy some people. There's also no booklet for Isn't Anything or Loveless, but there is one with the EPs 1988-91 2CD, which just recreates the original front/back sleeves of EPs.

Also out today, Pointer Sisters' Serious Slammin' on BBR. Another nice release, super jewel case, 12" mixes, decent liner notes/photos. They used Janet Jackson's Control as a starting point for the album, I just read...

Oh, I am very keen to get the MBV reissues! If they're a tenner instore, that'll do me I expect. I may hold off on Loveless, as I only recently got a used copy cheap, but the EPs one is top of my list.

I think 'I Wanna Have Some Fun' is the best of the Jive era Samantha Fox albums. So many tracks on there that would have been better single options than those selected though I do like the official singles from it. I bought the Wounded Bird reissues so the first three albums will have to wait. I preordered 'Just One Night' but Cherry Red seem to have done a great job tracklisting wise with these.

  12. #1387
I think 'Samantha Fox' is her masterpiece.
Except the Satisfaction tragedy - because I hate the original, not because she did a bad cover
the rest is amazing pop. That Sensation and the two ballads are amazing.

  13. #1388
I only rate Touch Me and Samantha Fox. I thought the third album was a bit weak, and yet Love House is a classic. I like ALL tracks from the first two however, I've been playing them since pre-teen! Scary, really.

Oh, the Best Of The Hit Factory compilation out July 9th has now swelled to a limited 3CD affair... CD3 is rumoured to feature (gasp!) genuine rarities!
    Kissy Kissy, Anfunny

  14. #1389
Although it would be amazing I'm not going to get too excited about a PWL rarities 3rd disc just yet. Wasn't there supposed to be one with the last Hit Factory compilation that the label scrapped to include the 12" mixes of You Spin Me Round and Never Gonna Give You Up... I don't know if Mr Sleaze still posts on here but I'm sure he was involved with compiling it. It would be amazing if it happens though - I'd love stuff like the Debbie Harry version of Mind Over Matter and Bananarama doing This Time I Know It's For Real (if it actually exists!), the PWL version of Buffalo Stance etc etc.

I think I Wanna Have Some Fun is easily the best Samantha Fox album, almost every single track is amazing, and it's probably in my Top 10 albums of all time. I'm so looking forward to all the Sam reissues with all that bonus content. This has been a pretty good year for 80s reissues so far. Whatever happened to the Thereza Bazar album?

Propaganda's "Wishful Thinking" is coming out again in June with extra tracks...

I'm expecting the recently unearthed demo of You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) to be on this 3rd CD seeing as it was played on BBC1 for the first time ever on the day they annouced the event... they know full well the fans want something rare and unreleased. NOT a remix disc again.

We won't be satisfied until every Kakko track in the vaults is released.

  18. #1393
I thought there were enough tracks for a Kakko album?

  19. #1394
    It's the impossible dream!

  20. #1395
Now the old forum has gone, we've lost the list of completed tracks and a review of each by Mr Sleaze... there were about 10 or 11 he found on a DAT at PWL. Chuck in the mixes and we'd have a 16-17 track CD.

    Out on the 18th June:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vicious-Pink...7191307&sr=8-1

One of my most anticipated releases ever. Although, having said that, I would've dropped at least one of the C-C-Can't You See remixes in favour of getting My Private Tokyo on there as well. Still, it's a start...

Also, not CD, but Minimal Wave have just put out a rather beautiful Hard Corps LP limited to just 999 copies.

Amazing! There was talk of this Vicious Pink CD back in 2009... it's taken all that time to come out! Insane. It's slightly annoying it's not, like, everything. Hmmm. Oh well...

    It's 99p cheaper on HMV.com;

Wha.......they do an Its Better To Travel deluxe and it DOESN'T have a 7" mix of Twilight World??!!!! Complete joke. Oh well. I've got all those tracks (or at least 99.9% of them) on CD or vinyl, and I made my own Deluxe version years ago using those. What a wasted opportunity this is.

(I love that blog too, by the way)
