"Ardent Rihanna mud-slinger"
I wonder how long until we get Rye Rye/Far East Movement/Natalia Kills/Colette Carr collabos? Hmm.
I find it odd how she was doing absolutely nothing on radio and then all of a sudden..took off. Wonder what changed.
#6 on iTunes and it's exploding on radio airplay too. Amazing. Between Ellie, Cher and Calvin Harris, I'm liking this UK invasion.
Yeah because Lady Gaga is the only pop star of this generation to have an iconic anthematic song. California Gurls says hi. *Eye roll*
What the actual fuck. This actually has an amazing shot at getting to #1? Never would have I thought. She's beyond deserving though! Maybe they'll end up pushing a couple more singles in the US to keep her in the limelight til the new record comes out.
I can't wait for her second album. Her first remains one of my favourites ever. Yes, ever.
Happy for her to have some success in the US first though.
I'm about to drown in the ocean.
I'm so amazed she's exploded in the US. Lights was always my favourite song on the album, so I was gutted when it underperformed in the UK...I could've ever dreamed it would be her crossover hit there!
"I don't have hairy breasts" - Mollie King
It's true. Lights represents the third slowest climb to the Top 40 by a female artist ever in the US! So it's been building up for a long time now.
I'm just really curious where they'll try to take her next in the US. I guess it depends on how long this song stays on top, which judging by the buildup, it'll be there a while. We don't have any singles from the big girls coming until Fall at least, except P!nk, but that's just one artist.
Janet.
Jonathan and I talked about this before, but it'd be great if the follow-up singles did well and we finally got Bright Lights over here! I hate not having Wish I Stayed, Home, etc. They messed up the US tracklist big time.
The Queen is SMA$HING THE US of A! OH MY.
Proud is an understatement, its been a long time coming but it could be a NUMBER ONE!
Animal (2012 version) should be the next single or the debut 2nd album single, then the 2nd album can follow with 'Lights' as US Bonus Track!
#5!
Next up, "Gotye".

How ironic is that they spent money on recording an entire new version of Starry Eyed video specially for the US market, yet her big crossover hit single is the one that has the cheapest video of them all. This turn of events is amazing at all levels.

So is this US success gonna make the label kick her arse into gear RE: the new material?
She'd do good to capitalise on the US momentum by dropping her new US/UK first single soon after Lights disappears from the top of the charts. Keep her fresh in the minds of the transatlantic consciousness by serving us some fresh sounds.

I do believe it was only actually sent for radio adds this January!
When she was doing the initial promotion rounds in the US (SNL, radio tour, etc etc), Starry Eyed was the single that was launching her I believe.
Lights had great digital sales and hovered around in the iTunes top 100 for ages though, and the Bassnectar remix was strong too. But yet, it was only sent to radio this January. The promotion she had done up to that point probably helped launch the song though, and gave it a bit of a head start.
Born to run, get ahead of the rest.

'While Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" remains at No. 1 for a third week on the Hot 100, Ellie Goulding's "Lights" moves into the top 10 for the first time, setting a Billboard record in the process.
The song rises 12-6 in its 27th week on the Hot 100, completing the longest ascent to the top 10 in the chart's 54-year history for a song by a female that was not aided by crossover airplay from country to pop radio. It's the 13th-longest journey to the top 10 overall.'
1. Keri Hilson 2. Duffy 3. Beyonce 4. Koda Kumi 5. LMFAO 666. \'Lizzy Grant\'
And she's now put on Twitter she's in the studio with Calvin Harris. Which is both brilliant and worrying.
Brilliant in that I can imagine they will go amazing together as long as they create some melancholic and sparse dance pop. Worrying in that I don't want Ellie to jump on the dance wagon too much. I still want the folk influences in there please.
I'm about to drown in the ocean.
