I'm streaming The Singles Collection at this very moment, not sure why as I am not much of a Britney fan but I had a sudden urge to listen to 3 (one of my favourites of hers) and I couldn't for the life of me remember which album it was on. I thought maybe Blackout but it wasn't there (I recalled it came not too long after Piece of Me). I have to admit she really does have some good singles, except Slave 4 U which I can't stand - odd because Britney fans seem to think its wonderful.

As for the X Factor, they had Cheryl "lip synch" Cole as a judge so I see no reason why Britney should not do it. She is far more famous, not to mention a lot nicer. Pity its not the UK X-Factor as the last series was pretty dire with Kelly Rowlands and Tulisia.

Telephone is bland, I'm glad Britney never got it in the end. 3 on the other hand is catchy as hell and effortlessly Britney.

  3. #22703
    I love both, but 3 > Telephone.

  4. #22704
And Telephone was by Darkchild whereas 3 was by Max Martin.

3 came out after Radar, Circus era. I was shocked it was such a hit in the US and actually entered the UK top 10 after the poor Circus era chartings.

Say what you will about 3, but it's a very instant and catchy song.

    Also has a fantastic middle-8.

I am surprised by the director's cut of the 3 video, where there were some nicer shots of her not in the the final edit.

I wonder if that was Britney's call or her team that didn't want it in there.

3 is so fucking well produced. Say what you like about her vocals or the lyrics but the production is absolutely killer.

I sort of agree, it's one of the most overrated pop songs in recent years. It's not bad but isn't all that. Beyonce must have been chosen to feature on it for a reason (to give it that particular something it was missing). Without that big video it wouldn't have been such a pop moment. I prefer Britney's vocals on it and think it sounds better with her, it could have been a good album track for her.

Behyonce was brought in to neutralize any negative feelings between Lady Gaga and Jay-Z. The gaga song "paper gangsta" was about jay-z who prior to Interscope had signed and dropped Gaga and gaga was very upset. hence the song.

Are you sure you haven't confused Jay-Z and L.A Reid?

No, I'm pretty sure it's Jay Z. The Beyonce thing wasn't totally random.

Hence "Paper Gangsta" playing on the boombox during the "prison yard" scene in the video.

    I could be wrong

Pretty positive LA Reid was the man who discovered, signed, and then dropped her. The "Phone" connection between Beyonce and Gaga was the main connection there, I think.

Has Jay-Z ever been associated with Def Jam anyway? I think it was LA.

  14. #22714
It's definitely L.A. Reid, for Def Jam.

Beyonce is on Telephone because the two got to talking, clearly the idea for a duet was there because of Camp Britney, and thus she asked Beyonce instead as she was receptive of it being a Gaga track. The Video Phone idea probably followed.

Beyonce is not on Telephone because of anything to do with LA Reid.

Jay-Z was actually president of Def Jam at the time. But it's a mostly honorific title. Reid would have been (and is well documented to have been) the one to approve both her signing and dropping. Even if we didn't know that, the reference to "Mr California" makes it's pretty obvious she's talking about L.A..

3 has excellent production, BUT so does Telephone and Telephone >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>3. Plus IMAGINE Britney in the video "You've been a very bad girl Gaga". That would have broken the internet. SUCH a missed opportunity.

HA. Britney would not have been in the video I bet. She would have probably made a cameo on a TV screen or something.

And she certainly wouldn't have condoned the outfits Beyonce+Gaga wore. It would've been Gaga and Britney in the pussywagon - Gaga in her 1960's alien-esque get-away outfit, and Britney sitting there in a sloppy bun with a plaid shirt and eyeliner smeared all over her face. No one would be able to tell if she was involved in the murders or if Gaga picked up a lost Clampett on her way out.

    Like almost always...

Britney looks always good in her videos.
Daft Punk / Britney / Björk / Lana Del Rey / Robyn / Gaga / Florence + the machine

  22. #22722
How would you know she wouldn't have done that? I mean it's not as if Beyonce did anything outrageous or out there in that video, so who's to say she couldn't have?

The dancing is the only thing I would question, but then again it wasn't exactly that hard to do.

What are Britneys most iconic song? I go with:

    Baby one more time
    Oops I did it again
    Stronger
    Lucky
    I´m a slave 4 u
    Toxic
    Everytime
    Gimme more
    Piece of me
    Womanizer
    Till the world ends
Daft Punk / Britney / Björk / Lana Del Rey / Robyn / Gaga / Florence + the machine

Me Against the Music - because of Madonna being involved.

I'd say also because of the choreography in the video.
What about You Drive Me Crazy (Stop Remix)? Maybe because of its video as well. It's more of a Britney classic than let's say Not A Girl Not Yet A Woman. And Circus must be very close to be one of those 'big' songs.

If it was possible for an album track to be any sorts of iconic, hers would be Touch Of My Hand and Breathe On Me.
