Everyone has their own opinion. It just happens a lot of people don't agree with her album covers.

Edit: Well, that didn't make one bit of sense.

I wish Anticipating had been a single. But then the Britney era really would've been a massive and obvious Janet rip off.

It annoys me when people cite her as Madonna lite. She's been far more Janet lite than she ever has Madonna. It's a shame they didn't work together when they were both good. Maybe Janet can introduce Britney to Nutrisystem~

  3. #25978
Britney's crazy enough on her own without being surrounded by Janet's 'Jackson' aura.

Yeeah, um, I was talking about similarities to All For You and dancing but, OK.

  5. #25980
Yes, I realize as much. But I don't think it would have/would be a very good match.
    Meet your new stepmom, kid.

  6. #25981
Why? Britney's cut from Janet's cloth.

Jeez, imagine the MATM video with a dance off - as opposed to Plaindonna on a, leaf swing?

  7. #25982
Right, so they would dance together, but would there be any chemistry? Do you think their image aesthetics would gel very well together? I mean, I see what you're getting at, but I just don't know if it would work, even if Britney is more "like" Janet than Madonna.

Roll on the floor, try not to heave, spread your legs, roll in the leaves!

I'm surprised the Janet comparison isn't drawn more often, they are certainly paralells to be drawn. They even both enjoy hissing the word 'nasty' in their songs! Janet would have fit Me Against The Music far better as well (seriously, how did a Britney and Madonna collabo end up being so chronically underwhelming?)

I'm not following you. Their image aesthetics are.. were, the same? The only image aesthetics Madonna and Britney ever had in common was 'blonde'.

I don't see the Janet similarities. They both danced well at one point. That's about all I can seem to gather. That and they both act like timid children even as grown ass women.

  11. #25986
Do you think so? Hmm, perhaps.

I guess what I'm getting at is Britney always seemed a lot more innocent (I know, word choice) in her sexual come-ons than Janet ever did. Janet will throw you down in the middle in street and ride you like a stallion, but you've got buy Britney a nice hotel room first.

A minor difference, but a key one.

They are certainly VERY similar, you can tell some of Britney's sexy vocals are drawn from Janet. Inside Out, Get Naked, Kiss You all Over, etc etc etc all have a Janet feel.

But they are so similar that a collab might actually feel rather dull, especially now that both have trouble dancing, Britney moreso, but still, it would be a bit underwhelming.

I guess it would work better if Britney used her lower tone.

I think innocent is the perfect word to describe Britney's sexual nature, in relation to her music. There's always been this strange, Marilyn Monroe-esque dichotomy of innocence and overt sexuality with Brit Brit, in her music and her persona.

I think Janet's always had that dichotomy too? At least until Damita Jo. I'd again say it's Madonna who would 'throw you down in the middle of the street'. Britney's came from her youth when she started out, and her Southern 'thing'. Janet's comes from being a Jackson. Watch them walk down the same hotel corridor in Son Of A Gun and Overprotected (Darkchild Remix) respectively and they both just give off the same aura.

heyho has a good point though. They could've just ended up cancelling each other out from their sheer similarity. But then it could also be like When You Believe (Dance Edition). WHEN YOU BELIEVE (DANCE EDITION)!!!

Britney is most definitely more similar to Janet Jackson in performance style and music than Madonna. But the Janet and Madonna covers she did are her first two are both flawless. It's awesome to think that Britney has likely inspired Madonna and Janet as well.

Back in the day I was just dying for Britney and Justin to cover Janet and Michael's "Scream". Such a wasted opportunity that they never had a full on duet, aside from Mickey Mouse Club and "What It's Like To Be Me".
The funny thing is this is Britney's second video with a horse, the first being Me Against The Music

I like her song When I Found You.
"If I don't like you, I don't want you to be happy, and I'll go out of my way to hurt you." - Amanda Bynes

I think Britney is both Janet and Madonna.

Janet in dancing and performance style and Madonna with music videos and visual imagery (school girl, catsuit, gypsy).

L.A. Reid's Battle to Sign Britney Spears
5:00 AM PDT 8/8/2012 by Shirley Halperin

The "X Factor" judge is wooing his co-star with big promises -- but Barry Weiss, head of Justin Bieber's label, won't give up without a fight.

This story first appeared in the Aug. 17 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine.

A battle for Britney Spears is brewing. The pop star's recording contract with the former Jive Records (now RCA, a division of Sony Music) has one album left, and among those courting the chart-topper are L.A. Reid, chairman of Sony's Epic Records and Spears' X Factor sidekick, and Barry Weiss, former Jive head who's guided her career through its greatest heights and now chairs Island Def Jam Motown and Universal Republic, home to Justin Bieber, Kanye West and American Idol's Mariah Carey.

Both execs want to sign the 30-year-old singer, whose seven studio albums have sold some 100 million units worldwide, to their rosters (at a cost of $3 million to $5 million per album, according to one estimate). But in what’s being described by sources as a virtual faceoff, the two are approaching the courtship with divergent strategies.

Reid, with whom Spears has become “chummy” since joining X Factor -- to the extent that she and Demi Lovato swapped table positions so Spears can sit to Reid’s left -- is in dire need of an artist who can chart, having run Epic for more than a year now with nary a hit to its name (staffers insist new signings Ciara and Avril Lavigne could turn the tide). According to sources, Reid is using his proximity to Spears to woo her while also offering his counsel and promising to take her career “to the next level.”

Weiss (pictured), who essentially swapped jobs with Reid in 2011, at least where IDJ is concerned, has time on his side. "I have a 15-year history with Britney and would love to be reunited with her," he tells The Hollywood Reporter. Indeed, Weiss is one of few executives with whom Spears has interacted directly and he represents a sort of “comfort zone for Britney," says an insider. “Barry understands how her business is run and the many buffers in place."

Chief among them: the decision makers in Spears' life. They include Jason Trawick, Spears’ fiancé, former agent and co-conservator (along with her father Jamie Spears), who sits at his own judges’ table-like spot on the X Factor set and keeps a close eye on the proceedings, and Larry Rudolph, her longtime manager. Rudolph is close to both Reid and Weiss -- the former via Lavigne, whom he also reps, and the latter from his years with Spears.

"I have a 15-year history with Britney and would love to be reunited with her." — Barry Weiss, Chairman & CEO, Island Def Jam Motown and Universal Republic

Worth noting: Spears’ affiliation with X Factor, which is aligned exclusively with Sony Music, does not give the label group a signing advantage nor does Spears' contract preclude her from negotiating a new deal concurrently. The show could, however, bar other executives from coming onto the set. RCA Records would not comment for this report, other than to say that the label does not disclose details of its artists' deals.

“Larry and Jason will want to go where the money is,” offers one source, who cautions that, after all these years in the business, Spears has developed “a pretty good shit-detector [where] if L.A. goes overboard, that could push her away.” Ultimately, says the insider, Spears can be easily swayed but will go where she’s comfortable. Adds another high-ranking executive, “She’s a hot commodity, and that’s a good position to be in.”

I wonder who she'll sign to...

  19. #25994
I hope it's Barry just for nostalgia reasons.

  20. #25995
She can sign to anywhere that will rule out further involvement with Will.i.am.
    "Spit ya fluidest, Bitch..."

  21. #25996
Sadly, I think she can sign to anywhere and the end result will be the same and possibly worse if she doesn't have the A&R team she has now.

  22. #25997
Either way Britney clearly has the final decision to this, which is good.

I have a feeling she may stick with Barry, because she's been with them for so long and has a good relationship with him and the team.
