Shelter is the best 'gay' movie I have seen. Credible acting, good script, looks great etc. It's really at the top of the genre.
Were The World Mine is great for something totally different! The lead is hot too!
As mentioned before, Breakfast With Scot is such a nice film, the little camp queen totally steals the show!

There's a major gay plot in Todd Hayne's "Poison", a good movie if you're into the artsy.
"Presque Rien" is overall dull in a way that's hard to justify, but there's some nice stuff there, it has a tone all of its own, and god the guys are hot.
"Shortbus" feels a bit glued together in parts - the tone shifts around and it takes a while for the characters to properly settle - but there's also a lot of beauty in it.
There is a German movie called "Sommersturm" (Summerstorm) in which a boy is in love with his best friend. I thought it was very well done, great actors and very..."authentic".

I've just watched a wonderful Israeli film called The Bubble. I can't recommend it enough. The two main actors are adorable as Noam and Ashraf, an Israeli and a Palestinian who fall in love in Tel Aviv. Seriously; great acting, great story, attractive actors.

Just watched the movie Shelter, One of the best films I've seen in a while.
I saw Shelter around this time last year and I really enjoyed it. I saw Weekend last month and thought it was even more impressive.
Whatever you do, don't watch Latter Days.

I missed Weekend when it was in Dublin's only arthouse cinema for five whole days. It looks fantastic!

I saw The Broken Hearts Club about 8 years ago, really enjoyed it. Beautiful Thing I saw a few years back, but couldn't get over the orange and lime oversized shirts and Shirley from EastEnders. It was alright, but I think I would have appreciated it more if I'd seen it in the nineties.
I tend not to watch LGBT movies. I dont particularly identify with the majority of gays onscreen and I dont like how every gay stereotype is shoe-horned into some media. That said, I absolutely adored Milk. The boy in the wheelchair on the phone to Harvey broke my heart.

I can see what you mean about Beautiful Thing. I watched it in Film Studies about 7 years ago before Kim and Shirley were in Eastenders but even then I was put off by how dated the film is. The themes in it are wonderful, and I have no problem watching a film from any era but there is something ridiculously too mid nineties urban London concrete jungle about it.
Another one I don't think has been mentioned is "Prick Up Your Ears" about the relationship between playwright Joe Orton and Kenneth Halliwell in 50/60s.
Oh Summer Storm was lovely. I really felt for the main character, torn between two sides.
Gonna try watching a few more of the titles mentioned in the thread. What did anyone think of Kaboom? I downloaded it just to perve on Thomas Dekker, but never paid much attention to it and I cant remember a thing that happened other than a sex scene with Dekker and some hot guy.

One that I thought was really amazing was C.R.A.Z.Y. I think its because it was more a family movie with a gay main character than anything else.

I'm so chuffed in the last few years I've managed to get most of my favourite gay films on DVD and a few more I have yet to see. I tend to prefer the darker ones and have a more european preference but everyone likes a fairytale once in a while too! My favourite films with a "gay" theme:
