Sometimes you feel like making your own iTunes-covers, because:
    1. The song never had official arbum-art (demo/live-performance)
    2. The original cover wasn't square (dvd-rips, special edition albums..)
    3. The original cover sucks.

This is the place to post and share all things you've created for these occasions, or even to request cover-art for songs you don't know what to do with!

To start things of: here's some Girls Aloud-ones I recently did (I just adding album-art to all songs since I got an iPhone, so I'm sure there's plenty more to come).

(for all their Popstars-performances.. I realize this one is cheap as hell, but it works for me)

For the Girls Aloud-Party performances.. just a screenshot, but once again, works for me!

    My favourite! For their Untouchable-performance..

Mine are horribly boring - just a photo of the artist with their logo stamped on it somewhere. I couldn't be bothered with more effort for my iPod..

Well I think they work pretty well.. if I had any song by those artists (without actual cover art) I'd use them!

I made this for the Benny Blanco Remix.

lots of time's I'll play around in Photoshop and make covers out of boredom. Here are some:

and a few months ago, I made this without using a computer- I composited random pictures and other media for a burned CD that used revised edition of X i came up with:

I posted these in the Victoria Beckham thread.

Just some alternate versions of covers for a Greatest Hits joeysneddon compiled there!

Joeysneddon did the picture for that last one, I put my Paint-made logo on top of it.

Here's one I recently made for the Glamour And Diamond remix of 'Electricity' by Monrose:

'Donna Summer told me the Lord should wash my mouth out with soap. Donna Summer who sang Bad Girls!'

This is the front cover I use for Don't Stop:

I prefer it to the 'official' one. It's nice and colourful and Annie's clutching a wee cat - and I think it suits the album better than the washed out looking other cover with Annie. If I found another cover that I preferred I would use it.

    (Sorry it's so small!)
Annie, if you're reading this...please know that I want your EP right now!

Wow, do people really bother spending time making covers for remixes and/or performances? I tend not to be bothered and just shove the song with the original artwork under one big 'single' CD.

I'm sadder (although I do consider it good practice), and since The Great iTunes Crash Of 08, for my really important bootlegs I make their own covers, and print them off to make my own CDs for my collections. Although I stress, they're for personal use only and I'm not flogging anything at car boot sales (disclaimer over). Examples:

I only stick the barcodes and stuff on because I'm a loser and I think it makes them look a bit more authentic.

Thank you! I do enjoy doing them. Infact, i might do a few new ones later and stick a few others up here. I might do a printable Posh now you've given me the idea!

I should say, if anyone wants any of the stuff i've stuck up, in printable PDFs or iTunes art then prod me and I'll link you.

The only reason I did one for Monrose's 'Electricity' remix is because the song wasn't a single, just an album track so I stuck it on my mp3 player with that cover.

Ah makes sense if it has no logical home so to speak. Annoys me sometimes, though I guess I just sometimes extend singles into EPs myself!

Some of these are lovely. What do you all use? I have Photoshop but I can never seem to find images which are hi rez enough to look good. Also, what programme do you use to print them to scale, if you actually make CDs with them? I'd love to do more of this myself.

Finding the photos is usually the worst part of the job - and is why I stick to a few core artists in general (Britney/Madonna/GaGa) who have big online followings. There are sites like Bad Media Karma for Britney, and Queen Madonna who have massive galleries of HQ artwork for pilfering. Then I up the resolutions to 300dpi and see what i'm left with. Sometimes I may have to resize an image up a centimetre or two, which isn't ideal but is the only solution (it doesn't happen often, anyway).

I did a cover for the Rain Tapes by Madonna, and used an image from the Sex Book. it lost some quality when it was upsized, but I worked around that by adding some layers and effects to make it look grainy and aged; if you can't beat em, join em, as some might say.

For image work I use Photoshop, for laying them out I use InDesign. I have a bunch of InDesign templates for the CD tray, the booklet and the CD itself that I use - I got them from the InDesign website and Adobe have good tutorials on working with jewel cases.

For fonts and stuff there's a great site called What The Font which helps in identifying those used on existing covers if you want to stick to the 'brand', and there's alot of material out there (like the Confessions disco ball background and the Madonna logo) if you trawl the web a bit.

Some great stuff on this thread. I really quite enjoy making CD covers. I tend to go for the minimalist approach as I don't have photoshop and use white backgrounds to try and save ink and just put some images and text into a word document...

Fan forums and wallpaper on fan site are a good place to start for logos and good images. The colourful Spice shadow picture was from the DenDen forums I think.

Hope it's not cheeky to ask this, but would any of you very talented people be able to knock up a fake Beatles album cover for me, by using the Wing's Band On The Run sleeve but changing the faces to John, George and Ringo instead of the "famous friends" that Paul got in for the shoot, and then putting a Beatles-esque logo on as well?

It's for something I'm working on for a fellow PJ-er, which will be revealed soon.

These are all a bit good! I like.
I've done a few but they're not on this laptop, so here's a couple for now.

Pop! (Partly) - custom compilation for a friend, and a spoof of the "Pop Party" series. (2006)

    The Saturdays - Work

Gathania - Blame It On You

So I'm messing about with different things at the moment, and I decided to do a Lady GaGa 80's style LP. And here's the artwork:

It's amazing, Danee! But would be better if you had the line! The line makes all Lady | Gaga covers more amazing!

Bloody hell, how good is that?

The front reminds me of Kim Wilde's Teases & Dares for some reason.

I love your stuff Dannee, it is fantastic, particularly the 80s Gaga stuff and the Madonna ones. I'm seriously tempted to properly get into Photoshop now instead of pissing about with Paintshop.
