Will this ever really happen though? It would be good if finally there was a comprehensive DVD of all his videos to celebrate his 30 years in the business. I must say I would have liked to have seen him win a life time achievement award at this years Brits instead of bloody Robbie Williams.

'Orpheus In Exile' still has not clicked with me and I'm afraid every time I put it on I take it off half way through...... mind you I do the same with 'Stranger Things'.

I wonder what 'Varite' is going to sound like.... I want big dramatic pop songs!

Talking of great dramatic pop songs, I was talking to my other half a couple of weeks ago while playing 'Hand Over My Heart' and he reminded me that he had read that it was one of Peter Hooks (New Orders) songs. I remember reading this too but cannot for the life of me remember where.

I am very excited as my copy of the double CD of Marcs new album 'Variete' has arrived. The packaging and booklet looks great. Unfortunately I cannot listen to it until this evening.

I am so hoping this is as good as 'Open All Night'.

EDIT I have listened to a few of the tracks and so far 'Nijinsky Heart' is my favorite. Although there are some great lyrics on this album especially amusing are those on 'Trials Of Eyeliner'.....

    In 1980's New York Town,
Where leather boys could all be found
you tried to get into their clubs
but the doorman gave you quite a snub
pointed to a sign above the door
only denim and leather to be worn
far to much black eyeliner dear
not a chance of coming in here........

How these lyrics made me laugh and reminded me of a trip to London in the 80's where myself and a female friend tried to get into a bear club in Earls Court, we were allowed in but we looked so out of place, and yes I was wearing eyeliner! the punters did not look to impressed with our presence.

I've always wanted to like Marc more than I actually do.. I'm not quite sure why. I love The Days of Pearly Spencer, Jacky, Tragedy and My Love but after that I get a bit lost...

Ask and you shall receive. I don't know whether they will be deluxe versions but the following are on the release schedule for 3rd January 2011:

    Untitled
    Torment and Toreros
    Vermin in Ermine
    Stories of Johnny

I saw Marc live in London this week as part of his Hits and As tour. It was incredible. I've never seen him before so for me it was brilliant to see him sing his better known songs and the audience all lapping it up. The highlight for me was the singsong to Say Hello Wave Goodbye. He looked really well and really happy. He made no hints at retiring by leaving us with "here's to another 30 years where I'll have to be wheeled on. You'll never get me off this stage!" As a one time resident of Southport it was quite an uplifting evening, especially considering his accident, recent illness and of course, the snow!

According to amazon, there were some reissues in 2008 although they're all hugely expensive now (especially Torment). Not sure how I missed those, I'd have snapped a few of them up!

OK, so I saw releases of Stories Of Johnny and Vermine In Ermine in HMV at the weekend - quite pricey, and not a lot in the way of extra tracks... are they worth getting? Stories Of Johnny is one of my favourite 80s albums. Whats the sound quality like etc?

I'm spending Saturday night in listening to Torment and Toreros. I forgot how good these Some Bizarre reissues were! Curious to see how people are finding the reissues. Something in the way of liner notes or lyrics would have been nice. Likewise the cheap digipak....

  15. #40
They do look a bit ropey, design-wise, but if they were in a 2 for 10 deal I'd snap them up in a heartbeat. Just don't really want to pay 9 or 10 quid.

I did a Soft Cell set with all the singles, mixes and stuff...but never did get to finish the Marc 4CD anthology I'd started to draw up! It's something I keep meaning/wanting to do.

Have you got The Singles 1984-1987? It's a pretty essential CD. The gaps in my collection are from the late 90s onwards, I've got Fantastic Star and one of the Virgin's Tales collections but not much else after that.

Have you got the Virgin Tales compilations? Volume 2 is one of my favorite Almond albums it includes all the fab b-sides and rarities from the Mother Fist era. 'Broken Hearted And Beautiful', 'Black Lullabye' and 'I'm Sick Of You Tasting Of Somebody Else' are essential tracks in my opinion. Reminds me of happy days living by the sea.'Broken Hearted And Beautiful' is so beautiful and melancholy it hurts.

I managed to get Vol.2 when I was an e-music subscriber; you'd get an amount of tracks per month, and I used up almost a whole month's worth on that. Was still better value than paying inflated prices for the CD version on the 2nd-hand market. That said, I would rather like to have Vol.1 as well one day!

My copies of Open All Night and Treasure Box have arrived, so the Marc Almond anthology project is back on! Might still need to get some of the more obscure material as well, we'll see. But I'm impressed with the fat-box case and liner notes for the Treasure Box set. It's got everything I was after.

I asked him on Twitter the other day if there was still going to be a deluxe edition of Heart On Snow. He said there are still plans but needs to get everything sorted for it (songs, photographs, etc.). He's been mega busy recently with the new Ten Plagues show, recording new music with Tony Visconti and of course, the ongoing project of THAT compilation.

I have only just got around to buying this on Cd. I have the VHS video's and the vinyl but it was only recently I realized I did not have 'A Woman's Story' on Cd! So now that's rectified.

Treasure Box is a rather lovely collection of remixes and B-sides and a few demo's

I just wish there was a album of remixes pretty much like the Soft Cell 12" album a few years back. I would love to have the dance mix of Ruby Red on Cd ( I only have it on 12" vinyl). If this is a nightmare to achieve how about the remixes getting put on reissues or something!

'Enchanted' really is a underrated gem. Haven't played it in years but have been playing it loads recently. 'A lover Spurned' truely is one of my favorite singles of the 1990's.....Such a powerful and dramatic song.... I remember getting it played on Simon Mayo's 11.33 spot on Radio 1 back in the 90's....... Whatever happened to the fabulous Julie T Wallace.

Anyway had to get that one of my chest.....Classic Tune and 'Enchanted' needs a reissue with extended mixes and a few rarities

I'm never sure if I like the video or not......certainly looked out of place on the chart show at the time.....Ha ha
