Thread: Gossip Girl

They might not be A list but I'd still consider them stars since they're getting work in films that will actually make it to cinemas as opposed to TV movies and straight to DVDs. They've built up decent fanbases. Plus Penn Badgley was in Easy A which was brilliant even if he did have very little to do with its brilliancy.

Are there that many TV actors that really make it in the movies at all these days?

Kristen Bell isn't doing too badly in the film stakes. Kristen Wiig has just become a huge star in film. Octavia Spencer from The Help was a guest star on just about anything going but I don't think she'll need to go back to TV for a while now. It's still hard but there are a good few people getting some pretty big opportunities. Weirdly, film actors doing TV has become the latest thing. James Marsden is currently guesting on 30 Rock for example.

Oh yeah, people always start out doing bit parts and whatnot, but there are so few actors who move on from a regular, successful TV role and become big Hollywood stars. Even the Friends cast have struggled - El Aniston has done alright for herself, but even she's hardly set LA on fire.

I was going to say that if anything, the flow is the other way!

Even with big stars turning to TV, the perception about TV doesn't really seem to be changing which is a shame.

I don't know, I think it is. There's so much more interest in television as craft now, and slow, brilliant dramas are really being appreciated.

RE: the latest episode, I'm rooting for Ivy but a quick Twitter search seems to suggest I'm in a minority. I don't understand, she deserves that money!

RENEWED FOR A FINAL SEASON OF 11 EPISODES!!!!

    Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss !!!

I really need to catchup on this, the last episode I seen was the wedding episode when Georgina came back.

I just started watching Season 2 and I think this is going to be my new favourite serie.

Jenny better be back for the final season, OR ELSE!

The only reason why I still watch it it's because I don't like leaving things unfinished. The show is utter shit now. The moment Taylor left the show things went from one low point to another. At least the torture will be cut short to 11 episodes instead of 22.

I actually think this past season has been quite good. Nate actually got a storyline. Ivy/Charlie is amazing etc etc. Jenny's stories were repetitive since she wasn't one of the core characters, I don't think they would have developed her very well over time. It took them this long to give Nate something decent to do.

Jenny never got a proper write off though. It was always so-so, like - "Oh she had things to do". BS altogether.. She deserves a proper ending much like any other main character!

I'm so pleased that it has a final season. Knowing that they have 11 episodes to tie up loose ends and to finish it should hopefully lead to a satisfying end.

In my opinion the fifth season has been the best and most consistent one since the first. It has had story arcs which have lasted longer than 2 episodes and has had some genuinely interesting storylines. I don't miss Jenny or Vanessa in the slightest and don't even care if neither of them return for the final season.

The last few episodes have been pretty good. I've really enjoyed Elizabeth Hurley actually, and Ivy being back makes me so happy, I adore the actress. Lola is annoying as fuck though.

I haven't watched Season 5 yet but Jenny and Vanessa become some of the worst characters in the show by the end of Season 4. Not even likeable like Chuck, but the writers completely removed all of their good characteristics by making them power hungry crazies without any depth. Even the few episodes Jenny popped up in during Season 4 were torture enough. It's a shame, because they were originally more well-rounded.

I agree with Rhombus - those two characters were UNBEARABLE by season 3, and I say that who held Little J as one of my favourite characters of the show for the first season.

I'm happy the show is getting a final season to wrap things up: I say bring back Georgina and Juliet (two of the best characters to be honest) for a big clusterfuck drama plot arc somehow involving Blair.

I couldn't remember who Juliet was, oh her! Yeah, she was good, Katie Cassidy is signed up to Arrow though. Juliet's story was pretty much done though, wasn't it?

Yeah, it was. I just loved her character! Her episodes of season 4 were the best the show had been since season 2.

This show does one thing great and that's destroy characters in a flash. They really made Jenny and Vanessa unbearable! They had this sudden urge of want for popularity and revenge that didn't seem to fit the hippy/happy go lucky Vanessa at all. Jenny, yes OK I can see how she would be both those things but they really brought it to levels that weren't needed.

I get Taylor wanted off the show but to turn her character into what she became was unnecessary, I would have MUCH preferred her to be the one to stand up to Blair and rise above all the Queen B stuff only to leave on a high. Instead she left an absolute mess. Still annoys me.

  22. #547
Wow, that finale was an ABSOLUTE MESS.

I haven't watched the finale but from what I've read... JESUS CHRIST, destroying pretty much everything else on the show to appease some insane Chair shippers? I'm not impressed. I loved Dair!

    What'd I say, eh?

So... for the first two thirds of this season, it was the best in quite a few years. Then came Georgina-being-Gossip-Girl and Dair and the whole thing went to the dogs. Those last seven episodes or so were absolutely awful. Dan and Blair's relationship was always very interesting, but them actually going out just ruined it. Blair would (and should) never have seen hm as more than a friend. Making Serena Gossip Girl for a bit wasn't explored half as much as it should have been, and with the usual GG narration it just felt really confusing.

The tail end of the series also managed:

    1) to make Serena insufferable, after making her so likable at the start of the season.
    2) to ruin Lily's character.
    3) to undo one of the most emotionally touching things that happened in the whole show... Bart's death.
    4) to sideline Ivy, who become one of the most interesting characters.
    5) TO VERY ANNOYINGLY AND PREDICTABLY MAKE THE CHUCK/BLAIR 'I LOVE YOU' MOMENT UNREQUITED. AGAIN.

I'm so frustrated. You know things are bad when Nate is the best character. I will miss Diana, too.
