Thread: Horror films.

I saw Pirhana 3DD last night. I never got a chance to see the previous one.

It sort of reminded me of Final Destination 4 with them at the pool. I couldn't believe Danielle Panabaker was in it, I really liked her in the Friday 13th remake. I found it really funny at parts, there was one big jump scene and it's kind of what I expected. It was a relaxing no brainer film.

I went back and saw it today.

    Ugh.

Seems the universe was trying to do me a favour as after those first 35 minutes it really went down the pan. The 'big climax' at the waterpark was a real damp squib which lasted about 3 minutes.

Christ knows what they were thinking - some things that happen are ridiculously stupid: decapitated by driving a golf cart into bunting!??

The upsides were the van scene, Danielle Panabaker (though I bet she was embarrassed), and the fish looked a bit better than in the previous one.

  3. #778
Yeah, I agree - I really liked the van scene.

I watched Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2 last night which was entertaining but nowhere near as good as the first movie.

The movie Megan is Missing was one of the worst acted movies I've ever seen but the last twenty minutes are scary as fuck. Woah.

Jersey Shore Shark Attack is such a funny 'horror' movie, just aired on SyFy. The CGI is awful and its one of those cheesily so bad but good movies. Melissa Molinaro as Nooki is great.

Anyone seen The House Of The Devil?

It's surprisingly fantastic. Low on gore and action but it oozes atmosphere. I insist everybody watches it.

The Pact was good in an average sorta way, didn't predict how it'd turn out.

  9. #784
I agree, it definitley wasn't predictable but it made me feel very numb. The cast were very odd and not in a good way.

  10. #785
The Pact was so bad, such a waste of two hours and £4.50. Just such a meh storyline with meh actors and a meh production. Meh.
Let's raise hell in the streets drink beer and get into trouble..heavy metal lovaa!

I saw Lovely Molly last night. I didn't really enjoy it and felt nothing from it but my friend liked it. It does benefit from a very interesting ending though.

I booked my tickets for FrightFest today. I can't do the whole five days which is disappointing but I'm going for one day. I've been meaning to do it for years.

Ever seen the 80s horror film Graduation Day? Here's a tip, if not then don't! Although the opening sequence with the music did make me laugh.

  13. #788
Graduation Day is awesome cheese! It's so badly made and slow it's hilarious. Actors were fired and replaced by people who look nothing like them; a rotting corpse with perfect feet and teeth; the crap martial arts of the heroine and the glam rock roller disco scene that never ends!

Oh wow, just realised the blonde girl at the beginning with the other track members totally gets replaced with another actress apparently it was because she didn't want to do the nudity, funny thing is they used her 'decapitated head' instead of the other actress. Must've been a very rushed production. I agree that it's one of those so bad yet hilarious movies.

I celebrated Friday 13th yesterday by going to a Friday 13th all night marathon in Leicester Square. I could only manage till the beginning of Part 7 though when it hit around 5am. They were showing up until Part 8 and it was really enjoyable to be apart of a large responsive audience watching the films. They really enjoyed Part 5 which I found odd, that's probably my least favourite up to Part 8.

  16. #791
I'm gutted I missed that - though I was in Thailand so shouldn't really complain.

I love Part 5 - it's so stupid but has a great cast of semi-knowns (in horror at least) and that stupid mystery that a 3-year-old could figure out.

Anyone here seen 'Evidence'? I'm a sucker for found footage! It was alright... The first half of the film was totally different to the second half, in an extreme way. Certainly affected my overall opinion of it.

I also recently watched 'Silent House' (American remake, with Elizabeth Olsen). Now that I enjoyed! Although the ending was a bit 'much'... Seen it all before! Very good for scares and atmosphere, though!

So, a prequel to The Shining is in the works.

Could be fascinating. Will most likely be crap.

  19. #794
At least it's not another remake. You know they'd cast R-Patz and Diana Agron.

Most modern horror bores me into a coma anyway.

It generally tries to make you jump as many times as possible and little else. More atmosphere, please. More creeping unease. Yeah.

    Pamela agrees, doesn't she?

  21. #796
Pam knew how to work it.

There is a lot of good new horror around, but its festival stuff, not commercial studio work.

Horror is a divisive genre, that's why films like Hostel Part II and Piranha failed at the box office, they thought "everyone" wanted more gore and nudity when in fact it was just a few vocal hardcore fans. Thus, mediocre, tame, over-commercialised fluff is all we see on the big screen. Saw being a possible exception but that was largely down to sheer momentum.

  22. #797
I still say Silent Hill and The House of the Devil are the best horror films of recent years.
He's my sun; he makes me shine like diamonds.

    Paranormal Activity 4 trailer anyone?

I dont care what people say about these films and how cynical they may be - its the best horror franchise of the past decade. Cheap scares they may be but they're damn effective. Can't beat watching these films in a packed cinema.
I'm about to drown in the ocean.

I just saw V/H/S and can highly recommend it.

I loved how it left everything unexplained.

Thanks for that truman. I've been wondering whether or not to see it is as a seperate film at FrightFest.
