Re: Gezza's Review of Every No 2 hit of the 80s

This Dave Stewart was a prog-rocker. He was in Gong, Hatfield & The North, and and a bunch of other prog bands - hence the very interesting/jazzy chord changes in the Stewart/Gaskin material. After...

Re: Goldfrapp 'Tales Of Us' (Album & Singles)

Seventh Tree is a lot more electronic than you think. It's tied for my favorite Goldfrapp album along with Black Cherry.

Head First was a somewhat lackluster album with a few great songs. The...

    You're right on both counts.

Here's a much better 80's pop take on The Locomotion:

(Although their version of "It's My Party" is even better than...

Re: Gezza's Review of Every No 2 hit of the 80s

Don't feel bad, "Push It" is absolutely terrible and I have no idea why anyone liked it back then, and especially not now. There was so much better female-led US pop/rap around at the time (J.J. Fad,...

Hm. Never heard of this "Mandy Smith" character. You say she did a version of "Don't You Want Me"?

(jsd toddles off to iTunes... two minutes later)

    OH GOD NO!!!!!!!! ...

Re: Gezza's Review of Every No 2 hit of the 80s

It's very common. Enunciation is not the #1 quality you look for in a pop vocalist, and there's plenty of scope in English for ambiguity. There's a whole website devoted to it:...

Re: Gezza's Review of Every No 2 hit of the 80s

I never got to do it in England, unfortunately, but we did have lots of outdoor parties here, and yes they were amazing.

Re: Gezza's Review of Every No 2 hit of the 80s

I was! I remember it clearly because we were actually on E and couldn't believe that the SONG WAS CALLED "Everything Starts With An E"! GET IT!? OH MY GOD so clever. It seemed absolutely awe...

Re: Gezza's Review of Every No 2 hit of the 80s

There's that dry British wit we all know and love :)

I was on the front line of this stuff in America. I had a friend who hooked me up with a tape that had this, S'Express, MARRS and I forget...

20 minutes in to the iTunes stream and this 44 year old is bored to death. Can't believe there's another hour of this wank to sit through.
  13. Re: Pet Shop Boys - Electric - New Album (and tour) June 2013

    Trumpet, not sax.

Erasure have always been so hit and miss, but I do love this song pretty much unreservedly. Good start to their "imperial phase".

1986 was the year I started college so I...

Re: Gezza's Review of Every No 2 hit of the 80s

I didn't much like it when it was initially released, and the heavy rotation on MTV and radio didn't help. I like it a lot these days though. A 30-year grower?
