I tried making a swizzy flash intro page with links to my blog/Twitter/MySpace/Facebook etc because I update them all at different times with different things and I had a really clear idea of what I wanted it to look like...

And it looked shit when I attempted it.  I am technologically anorexic.  But one day I shall have it done for me.  I will triumph.

Just doing a bit of my coursework in Dreamweaver.  Is using the div tag a good idea?  It centers things pretty well.
bless you, you said in another thread that in the next decade you wanted to become a web designer and you're only just coming round to using div's to center content!

as for flash, this particular site has no need for it at all, so why you even thought of doing it in flash is beyond me.  Flash should only ever be used as a compliment to a sites content not the entire sites content.

I've never really been into designing full on flash sites, I don't see the attraction, not everyone can view them, you cant copy you cant go back / forward etc.

And with dreamweaver, theres no excuse for anyone not to be able to throw together a web page!  Its almost like using word now its that simple.

Nothing beats notepad though!

Aren't you lovely, being a patronizing twat.

Its nice to know that while others have given constructive criticism and advice, you felt the need to put a belittling jibe in.

Have I missed something here? Seanie didn't say anything to belittle you.

This is the template for one of my coursework.

http://twitpic.com/qapxk

The navigation bar is a drop down.  I created the slideshow in dreamweaver but I'm not fussed on it so hoping to change that later on.

I like it but I feel like its missing something in the design but I can't put my finger on what it is.

I used to be quite the dog's bollocks with HTML/CSS once upon a time (if I do say so myself, as the former owner of the #1 Rachel Stevens fansite!). Now I only remember the very basic stuff....

I'm kind of confused why you're talking about using Dreamweaver at all. I graduated from my degree in Computing and IT earlier this year and we were forbidden from using things like that to do any web development as it doesn't really teach you anything and can be a bit restrictive. It's not that programs like that don't have their place, but if you're on a technical Computing course then you may as well get the most out of it now whilst you can.

I've never designed a web site in Flash and I hope I never have to! I'd almost forgotten about whole web-sites designed in Flash until tonight.

Nothing beats notepad though!
Notepad++ does. It's rather good for coding in HTML.

Dreamweaver allows you to 'code' in full with a good bit of syntax highlighting and autocomplete to boot.

To be quite honest, having learnt to do it in Notepad and then progressing to Dreamweaver, I can't imagine why you'd use anything else.  Does manually typing your meta tags achieve anything more?  Not really.

I know you're going to accuse me of picking on you, but I'm a full time web designer and thats really not the direction you should be taking if you ever want to get into the field.

How many websites that you use look like that?

you need to take some actual design courses that push boundries rather than teach you basics.

I use dreamweaver too at work, it the auto-complete helps a lot to cut turn around time haha!  and dreamweaver cs4's live view is very useful.

But notepad means i can do it anywhere on any computer

Regarding the first link you posted, I think you should change the colours.  I didnīt really have time to judge the fact that it was Flash because of how much it hurt my eyes.  If not change them, make them a bit less stark.

I know you'll probably slate me for always being negative but I don't think anyone can help it in this thread. This 'site' is merely a poor Flash template. The fact that you're even using frames in this day and age is appalling.

You should really focus on if you want to move into the design or programming aspects of web development. At the moment you seem insufficient for both tasks considering there really is no 'design' here and you did no coding.

I did the coding.  Just because I used Dreamweaver doesn't mean I didn't do the coding.  And what do you mean by frames?

Oh ignore that comment, just saw the url was a .tk and was framing the content from the webs.com page.
