I was at an event organised as part of the London Literary Festival last night celebrating the diversity of poetry and the spoken word from gay and lesbian people. A niche market yes. But I was still totally unprepared by the inappropriate and useless act called QBoy.
Apparently this rapping rent boy has been on the circuit for years and is a pioneer of 'homo-hop'? He has a huge page on wikipedia chronicling every tiny detail of his life (people he's spoken too, how he has recorded his songs, toilets he's worked in) which suggests that the painstakingly in-depth and non-referenced biography must have been solely written by him or  his mum in an act of shameless self-promotion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QBoy
I'm not against hip-hop, nor am I against it if it's gay or British. But if you're going to sell yourself as a gay rapper at least either 1) do something slightly political with it OR 2) keep up with your contemporaries. Don't be a hollow, vacuous, shallow, irrelevant non-entity with bad production, terrible vocals and laughable rhymes http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yw2Y-j17XGU Still, it was nice of him to ask his mum to add vocals.
The sad thing is he thinks he is some sort of credible musician who is a leading force in some sort of invented political musical movement. Deluded. Unless he thinks being sandwiched between Kelly Wilde and Nicki French at your next local pride is some sort of achievement.

I've never listened to his music, ever, but he did do an interesting documentary a year or so back on Channel4 about coming out in school, where he visited schools including his old one and spoke to students, some of which had come out at 13 and 14 and how that had affected their lives. It was hardly groundbreaking, but insightful and he seemed really involved in it. The bits where he'd start rapping made me piss myself though.

Also, please don't mention Kelly Wilde, I still have the nightmare images of her shouting Blondie's "Maria" in my face at a Halloween party in my local gay pub. *shudder*

It's a shame he doesn't focus more on his project work then instead of trying to promote himself. It wouldn't be so funny if he wasn't such a bad bad rapper. Let alone convinced he's one of the leading figures in a sub-genre he's invented for himself. If 'The League of Gentlemen' do another series maybe he could join Legz Akimbo?

Literally the biggest hit he's ever had was when some porn photos he did leaked online last year, or early this year, I can't remember.

'Leaked'? Ewww. It was undoubtedly done for QX with a link to his myspace at the bottom.

At this event he started to take his shirt off and said, "It's ok, I do have a brain! Surprise!".  I don't know how mincing around in a vest and jeans, rhyming about waving your hands in the air like you just don't care proves you have a brain, but obviously in his insular world it does. He even kissed somone in the audience whilst he was 'singing'.

Obviously i can't post the link here but hilariously the link included him being called QBoy rather than his real name. it was for some paysite, I think before he became 'famous' (if you can call it fame, I mean, really?)

As I've said before I;ve never bothered to listen to his music but from what you've said I'm guessing his tracks are about like going out and getting wasted rather than something that could actually be empowering to the gay community? To class yourself as the only gay white rapper or whatever and then just do any standard rap song (only with a wigga with a voice like James Dreyfuss on it) would just seem like a missed opportunity and a waste of time.

You've hit the nail on the head. He bangs on about being the world's biggest 'homo-hopper' but there is nothing in his music that conveys any message or sense of empowerment. It's just a joke that's gone too far.

Hello, kind sir, (Moorje)

I've noticed your negative, bitchy, false, misunderstood comments floating around on here and other sites - and well, felt I just wanted to say go fuck yourself :-)

You have no idea the amount of charity work I have done and continue to do for our community nor the depth of many of my lyrics and records - the purpose of me being at the Southbank was to bring upbeat vibrancy and fun not seriousness - as requested by the organisers - otherwise I have a whole host of other songs that would be more fitting. The person I kissed on the cheek during my performance is a good friend of mine and it was in fact his birthday that day, audience participation is part of performance you dim-witted fuck, unless you just want to sit there stunned like the lemon you are. You must have also completely, in your limited brain power, missed my performance of 'Karma' an honest account of violent attacks my friends and I have experienced including knife crime, rape and homophobia - lack of politics? I think not. Not only do I actively do great things for our community and at present go into schools as part of an anti-homophobic, transphobic and bullying scheme to break down these ideas in 14 year olds to create a safer environment for our LGBT teens while in the school system and to build a better more open minded future in all of us, but the very existence of me and my work alone since 2001 has broke down countless boundaries and ideas about what gay men can and can't do as deemed by idiots like you.

I don't push the 'homo-hop' tag as that is a phrase as created by Alex Hinton director of 'Pick Up The Mic - The (R)Evolution Of Homo-Hop' nor do I currently push the term 'gay rapper' - I am just me, an artist, producer, DJ - who is openly gay, sure, but that is not the entire purpose of my existence - and even if it was, I need not have to adhere to your ideas that if I am going to be openly gay in the media I HAVE to be political - aside from the fact I am and always have been extremely political - I don't HAVE to do anything - not just because you expect it. Who the fuck do you think you are? Clearly talentless in most areas apart from being a complete negative bitch, I only hope as reality TV progresses into darker and more extreme depths that sooner or later they will produce a show called 'Cunt Factor' and you will get your chance to shine and stop spending all your time writing nasty untrue and ill educated stuff about people that have never done a thing to you.

Much love to you,

QBoy .x.

Moorje, if you’re going to attack people in a public forum, at least get your facts straight first.
If you think QBoy’s lyrics aren’t political, then you obviously haven’t listened very closely.
And if you think he isn’t political, then you obviously can’t tell facts from fiction. We’re talking about someone who goes into schools educating young people about homophobia and tackling anti-gay bullying. If that’s not political, I don’t know what is.
I wonder what you do exactly, apart from sit at your computer composing vile character assassinations on people without revealing your own identity?  Actually, that’s not really a question that needs answering is it?
And yes, for the record, I was one of the organisers of the event in question. Unlike you, I believe in total honesty and full disclosure.

Like I already said, I do recognise the fact you do good charity work. But musically you're talentless. Keep up the good work where applicable.

Correction, YOU think I am musically talentless, but obviously there are a lot more people who disagree - and the funny thing is, this coming from you - and you have what talent? What is it you are bringing to the world? What is it that is enriching our lives? Changing? Adding? Helping? What? Sorry, what? Oh, that's right, nothing. I need say no more. Love you. x.x.x.

I could. But the point of this thread is music. Not charity. I don't make music, I have as much talent as you.

I was gonna post something along the lines of "Guys, calm down. Might one of the Moderators close this thread so that people participating in this fight can keep their dignity?", but then again this is the Hall of Shame after all...

This is quite amazing, I've never seen someone slag someone off in the media and then the media personality rise to the bait online! I thought media training was meant to get rid of all that type of defensiveness...

However, seeing as it works... I hate you Madonna, you smell!!!

(I really love Madonna, and I'm sure she smells of daffodils, but I want a chinwag with her about life, love and song)
