The Gold Digger promo lists songwriters as
Ray Hedges, Nigel Butler, J. Pickering, D. King, Brooke Challinor, Sophie King, Lucie Kay.

I don't know if that includes the writers of 'Stool Pigeon' which Gold Digger has elements from.

No. August Darnell wrote Stool Pigeon. And Gold Digger samples Wordy Rappinghood too, which means five more. So that's 13 songwriters in total? Even so, it sounds less of a mishmash than that other UK girl-trio's present effort. And the lyrics seem OK. So well done.

Right, I really tried hard to resist this lot (due to me being a bit of a snob) but Gold Digger really won me over. There is something very early Spice Girls about them.

Are they getting any radio play, who is behind them?

Being played on radio 1 - good support from Scott Mills

I'm officially in love with Sophie. I wanna marry this woman. She's perfect. Like a little sister of Cheryl Cole (which is already taken, so no beggin')

Anyway, I can't wait to hear 'How Did I End Up With You' in its HQ glory. It has the 'one of the best 2009 songs' feel.

I have been thinking and thinking (and thinking) about this issue, and i am not sure how to express it, but it seems you've given me a start.
I wander how string a correlation would be between those who are now getting heart and soul behind Dolly Rockers, and those who backed GA from the start. I can see Lisa, Kirkland, yourself, and me here, and i reckon there are many others too. In short: GA Loons seems to dig the dollies much more than other funbases do.
I reckon this is because the two acts share key attributes: they are fun, their music has a sense of humour, they do not take themselves very seriously, they demonstrate the existance of some personality, and they annoy the sterilised 'safe' image of lobotomised popstar that labels+media want to impose.
In the case of the Dollies, this attitude seems to be worked-out and got the form of an action plan (and runs the danger in the medium/long run to turn them into caricatures of their present self). In GA it remains in form of guerilla warfare with the dominant approach of safety&dullness. And even that guerilla is inconsistent -they often play the role of servile industry puppets, and it all seems to go well, until someone says/does something daft and the cover is blown.

In short: both bands are 'eventful' -their releases and appearences constitute events that you're never entirely sure how they're going to develop. This is because their members and their music have personalities that cannot be contained in the mould(s) they industry forces its product-artists in. And because it cannot be contained, it molest the shit out of the mould, and threatens to expose it for the life-drainer it is.

She does remind me of Cheryl a bit and yeah can't wait to hear the song in HQ! I think Brooke is my fave at the moment.

Do you not believe that they are already caricatures?

I think the reasoning for many GA fans being behind DL is because we can see a form of GA in them, particularly in the early days of the band. When the Girls first came about, they seemed to be fun and out of control (pardon the pun). They seemed to have a laugh in their videos (ie Jump, The Show, Love Machine) and you can see the same in the Dollys videos. DL remind me of Sarah and Cheryl (albeit in the early days of the band) when you, at times, do not know what thing they would come out with and there was an element of "don't give a shit" thought in them. Also, the Dolly Rockers music and Girls Aloud music from the WWTNS, Chemistry and TU era seem to have the fun element attached as well.

Possibly this could all be yearning for GA to go back and leave the Pet Shop Boys electro sound for a while and get back to making those fun records again?

To be honest I don't get the early Girls Aloud or Shampoo comparisons at all. There was always an element of surly even in the sparkliest early Girls Aloud song and Shampoo were a pair of 'don't touch me, don't speak to me' miserys who sneered at anyone who came within 50 yards of their sulking corner. They were purveyors of po-faced pop.

Dolly Rockers are perky and gobby (I never got the vibe a Girls Aloud and Shampoo girl were ever 'gobby' much favouring the headbutt... of the bouffant variety in the latters case)... kinda like "Girl Thing".

Maybe they can get their hands on the holy grail of pop "So You Wanna Have Sex".
