The Popjustice Almighty: July 31 2012
And here's why…
1. Alexandra Stan
Some days we think 'Lemonade' is perfect. Then we listen to it again and we realise that we did not previously know what true perfection was. The song redefines perfection every time we hear it.
2. Karmin
One of our favourite sort-of-new bands of 2012. Every song on their album sampler sounds - in the best possible way - as if it's by a different artist, and 'Brokenhearted' isn't even their best song.
3. Parade
We mentioned their new song 'Light Me Up' the other day and have been listening to it quite a lot ever since. It suddenly feels as if the vague vibe of tragedy has somehow been removed from the whole Parade 'thing', as if a fog of rubbishness has lifted.
4. Kimbra
Truth told very little of the album (iTunes link) is as good as 'Warrior', but it's still pretty good.
5. One Direction
We suspect very strongly that their second album will be the best album ever released by an X Factor act. That might sound like damning with faint praise, but don't forget that Journey South released two (TWO) albums, so hopes are definitely high.
666. Porter Robinson
This man is making life very difficult for us in ways we won't go into here but what's wrong with a nice pseudonym like Deadmau5 or Calvin Harris? Come on Porter, it's not too late.
